2010 American Indian College Scholarship Notices from the

Indigenous Early Intervention Alliance


A Citizen Potawatomi Nation tribal member is funding several scholarships, one specifically for the Cherokee students. Dr. Michael Niles is the founder of the Indigenous Early Intervention Alliance and is offering several scholarships, with one being specifically for Cherokee students. The scholarships are the Keepers of the Fire scholarship, the Edbesendowen scholarship, the MishkoswIn scholarships, and the Ghigau Scholarship.



The Keepers of the Fire Scholarship Program

The Keepers of the Fire Scholarship Program awards three (3) $500 scholarships to American Indian students attending a college or university in the United States or Canada or other Indigenous Communities. Requirements include being an enrolled tribal citizen of an American Indian tribe in the United State, Canada, or elsewhere and being accepted into or registered at a college or university. Preference will be given to those returning to their tribe or village following college graduation. Applications must be by September 1, 2010. Mailed or emailed applications will be accepted. Applications must be include a letter of interest, name, contact information, college major, academic level and plans following graduation. The 3 winners of the Keepers of the Fire Scholarships will be notified by September 30, 2010.

The Edbesendowen Scholarship Program

The Edbesendowen Scholarship Program awards a $300 scholarship to American Indian students attending a college or university in the United States or Canada or other Indigenous Communities. Requirements include being an enrolled tribal citizen of an American Indian tribe in the United States, Canada, or elsewhere and being accepted into or registered at a college or university. Preference will be given to those returning to their tribe or village following college graduation. Applications must be by September 1, 2010. Mailed or emailed applications will be accepted. Applications must be include a letter of interest, name, contact information, college major, academic level and plans following graduation. The winner of the Edbesendowen Scholarship will be notified by September 30, 2010.

The Ghigau Scholarship Program

(Only Cherokee Tribal Members can apply for the Ghigau Scholarship)

The 2010 Ghigau Scholarship Program awards one $500 scholarship to a Cherokee student attending a college or university in the United States, Canada, or other Indigenous community.

The recipient must be a Cherokee tribal citizen and a student who is accepted into or registered at a college or university. Preference will be given to those returning to their tribe or village following college graduation. Applications must be by September 1, 2010. Mailed or emailed applications will be accepted. Applications must be include a letter of interest, name, contact information, college major, academic level and plans following graduation. The winner of the Ghigau Scholarship will be notified by September 30, 2010.
