The goal of the Early Childhood Care & Family Development Conference is to provide pertinent information via presentations and interactive workshops for parents of American Indian children. These offerings are designed to heighten awareness of ways in which parents can better prepare their children for the educational and social challenges in life. Emphasis will be placed on behavior, coping skills, peer relations, health, and community. Workshop goals are to empower parents to advocate for their children throughout the educational process.
Audience:
Parents of American Indian or Alaskan Native children, program administrators, community advocacy group representatives,
and anyone interested in improving the lives of Native American youth and their families.
Keynote Speaker:
Mr. Albert Pooley
Program Director, Fatherhood is Sacred and Motherhood is Sacred Programs and President of Mesa’s Native American Fatherhood and Family Association.
Workshop/Panel Discussions (subject to change)
- The importance of being an engaged parent, especially at the early stages of childhood.
- Substance abuse, alcohol abuse, and drop-out prevention.
- Using the arts to succeed in today’s global information age.
- The prevention of childhood obesity.
- Special education training for parents.
- What federal programs can do to help parents.
- Parental involvement ideas.

The Prescott Resort & Conference Center is offering rooms for attendees of the Early Childhood Care & Family Development conference at a rate of $89.00 per night for single and double occupancy; $99.00 for triple; $109 for quadruple.
